In the last few years, Kolkata has seen a number of home bakers coming up to the food scene. And these days the home bakers ain’t any less popular than the proper bakeries. One such places I’ve come across recently is ‘The Baker‘s Box‘. The mastermind behind this project is Prerna Churiwal. She has her office close to Salt Lake Swimming Pool, which is exclusively for delivery and takeaways. I was invited here for a bloggers meet. We were served an array of items, starting from savouries to pastries. Let’s take a briefing on the ones I tasted at The Baker‘s Box.
Mini pesto pizza
Small crispy flour chips were presented as pizzas with toppings of cheese, capsicum, onions, olives, etc. The flavour was great and a special mention goes to the crispness of the bread. This infact was really innovative. The savoury mini pizza at any bakery comes with a really thick and hard base without any proper topping. This one was different and infact much better !
Once again, they are a little smaller in size compared to the samosas you generally enjoy with your evening tea. The samosas were stuffed with generous amount of cheese and spicy mayo. The outer covering was quite crispy while the stuffing was juicy and tasted amazing. This is a must have among all the savoury options here !
Lavash with hummus
The lavash was perfectly crisp with proper use of spices. The hummus was well done. This doesn’t fall under the savoury category and was basically a palate changer.
Death by Chocolate
I was almost dead by its amazing flavour. You shouldn’t order this unless you’re a fan of dark chocolate. It was really tough at the point to realise if I was having a cake or dark chocolate. The amount and quality of chocolate used is undoubtedly great.
Lemon pound cake
I’m not much of a fan of lemon cakes. However, I somewhat liked this. The texture was good and it was low on sweetness. The tinge of lemon in the cake tasted nice.
This was a game changer. I wasn’t in a mood to have any more desserts then and thought to share this with a friend. But one spoon of it and I realised that this heavenly thing can’t be shared with anyone ! The base is of custard while the surface is of burnt sugar and caramel. There’s a marshmallow on top which adds to its overall flavour. This was my favourite among all the items I tried out at The Baker‘s Box.
I also received a hamper which included oats and dark chocolate muffin, molten lava cake and cheese straws. These were as good as the ones I had at their office. The molten lava cake turned out to be my favourite.
Overall Verdict : Must Visit !
