Delicious pastries at Velvetiine !

​Desserts form an eternal part of a meal. I always prefer to end my meal on a rather sweet note. Be it a sweet or a pastry, desserts are very close to my heart. Talking about my recent favourites in the city, there’s one such place which has somewhat left an impression in my mind, which always happens to drag me whenever I’m nearby. The place is none other than the patisserie, ‘Velvetiine‘ !

Situated on Rashbehari avenue, this is a small boutique cake shop, but is decorated quite well. The menu includes various pastries and snacks. The lady who runs the cafe is very friendly and cooperative. It is always her suggestions that guides me to a delicious pastry. 

The menu comprises of exquisite pastries, cakes, cheesecakes, desserts, brownies, puffs and quiches. Overall, you get everything that a proper bakery should sell !

My pick till date have been the chocolate evasion slice, 5 layer chocolate gateau and the much popular rainbow cake. Let me proceed one by one !

The 5 layer chocolate gateau comprises 5 layers of sinful chocolate sponge infused with assorted flavours of chocolates, sandwiched with flavoured chocolate cream, Belgium chocolate truffle, Vanilla cream and nutella. It was rich in chocolate, creamy and tasted heavenly. Chocolate lovers specially the ones who love dark chocolate should give this a try. 

Chocolate evasion Slice is a triangular shaped chocolate cake, with dark and white chocolate callets and  dark chocolate truffle, finished with grated white chocolate and dark chocolate. This pastry needs to be set for a minimum of 1 day prior to consumption. This was less chocolaty compared to the previous one, but tasted excellent. The ones who can’t tolerate excess of chocolate should definitely try this.

Now comes the Rainbow Cake. It was a time when rainbow cake was very rare in Kolkata and people used to go crazy for this. However, these days almost every patisserie boasts of a proper rainbow cake and so does Velvetiine. The rainbow cake was just perfect, with proper texture and taste. It was rich and creamy. The sweetness was balanced. This was one of the best rainbow cakes I had tasted in Kolkata. 

Overall, Velvetiine is surely one of the best patisseries in the city at present. The quality of the cakes they prepare are definitely great. The pricing too, has been made wisely. I’m yet to try out the red velvet cake, the savouries and the other items on their menu. Would give another visit soon.

2. Arranging for two small tables and four chairs, thereby transforming it into a bakery cum cafe, would definitely help.
