Flavours of China is a name synonymous among the authentic Chinese restaurants in the city. It enjoys a very prominent location in Park street and shares it’s kitchen with Bar-B-Q. I had been to Bar-B-Q quite a few times but never had the chance to visit flavours as the former had always been my first preference.
It was on the occasion of my birthday that I decided to take two of my friends for a lunch over here. The dining area is magnificent, and can accommodate a huge number of guests. The interior is classy and elegant and thus perfect for a lunch or dinner with family or with friends. Going through the menu, I ordered mixed fried rice, singing chicken and double fried pork.
In not more than fifteen minutes, our order was served on our table. Talking of the quantity first, I was simply amazed. The fried rice is more than enough for two persons and we three coyld share it easily. The singing chicken came in a huge bowl with around 15 decent pieces of chicken which is amazing at that price. Also the pork had sufficient quantity to fill us up.
As per the taste, the rice was well made with generous chunks of chicken, prawns, egg, veggies and a wonderful aroma. The chicken was soft, juicy and simply melted in my mouth. The chicken was tossed with fried potato, onions and capsicum in a thick tangy gravy which went very well with the fried rice. The pork came dry, without any gravy. The pork tasted amazing. It was well fried with the outer part a little hard and as we go deep, the softness of the meat could be felt. It was an amazing affair.
Overall, I was very satisfied with the food. The bill came around 900 bucks which is damn cheap for three souls who were full after the hearty meal. There are many who say that the place no longer makes Chinese the way it used to do years back but my experience was just a contraction to this. The quality and quantity of food was beyond my expectations and thus I’m rating this place with 4, with the expectation of having a better experience next time. 😀
